Sadly this should come as no surprise. Polaroid is officially closing down there Norwood and Waltham plants within the next quarter. Check out the full story at The Boston Globe for all the depressing details.
That said I firmly believe that the Polaroid idea of instant film and pictures will be carried on in a more exclusive format. Agfa went under but another company in Germany is continuing to manufacture limited quantities of there chemistry for the hardcore film photographers and printers. I imagine a similar thing will happen with the instant film format.
